Under 16B

Round 17 22/08/2010

The Under 16 boys travelled to top of the table Williamstown on Sunday for their final game of the season.  The entertaining match finished 2-2 with the Hoppers boys very stiff not to go home with all three points. Williamstown (needing to win to stay top) led 1-0 at half time after a scrappy first half which was dominated by the wind blowing across the ground.  In the second half Hoppers came out with renewed purpose and the Williamstown defence started to panic as the Hoppers boys pressed forward.

Half way through the second half Hoppers were rewarded for their pressure with a goal mouth scramble leading to Kyaw Koh Wah Zar slamming the ball home from six metres, several minutes later Hoppers went ahead after Callum Was rounded a defender and laid the ball through for Kapru Say to slot the ball home. Just  before full time Hoppers were denied a win by the referee who awarded a penalty to Williamstown for an accidental handball.Great games by Omer Cansever, Leon Kikyris and Aaron Cassar.  Even though the game ended in a draw Hoppers played a great game and all players should be applauded for their efforts.

A special thanks to Coach Andrew Cassar and his assistant Steve McCallum
for their great work throughout the season.

Round 16 15/08/2010

Hoppers Crossing defeated Melton 3-0.

Round 15 08/08/2010

Hoppers travelled to Spring Hills on Sunday but played well below the standard they set the previous weekend and had to settle for a 1 -1 draw. Hoppers had the lion share of possesion throughout the game but the final pass continually let them down.  Spring Hills were first to score after a long through ball caught the Hoppers defence flat footed half way through the first half.

A rousing half time speech from the Hoppers coach seemed to fire the players up and there was greater purpose in the second half. Hoppers rattled the woodwork midway through the half and then minutes later Munay Say Aung Min powered past two defenders to fire a shot past an advancing goalkeeper to level the match. Unfortunately time was against Hoppers and the boys had to settle for a draw. Overall a disappointing effort.

Round 14 01/08/2010

After last weeek disappointing effort the Under 16 boys came out and defeated the Western Eagles 4 - 0 at home.  This game was sweet revenge for the boys who were robbed of a result earlier in the year (1-0 loss away). The whole team played magnificently in very wet, cold and slippery conditions at the Grange.  Josh Ellem was superb in goal and the back four of Justin Grillo, Leon Kikyris, Aaron Cassar and Tal Tal Tun repelled the opposition with great efficiency.

On the right side of the mid field Callum Was and Marcus Cipressi combined well with their passing and on the left side captain Omer Cansever was causing the opposition numerous headaches with his running and skill.

Through the middle of the park Kyaw Kow Wah Zar, Tommy McCallum, Munay Say Aung Min drove Hoppers forward on many occasions and were supported magnificently well by Tee Khu Kaw, Joseph Accetta and Kyaw Myint Kay. Up front Kapru Say Say consistently took on the defenders causing a lot of confusion in the box.  Goals were scored by Kyaw Kow Wah Zar, Omer Cansever, Tommy McCallum and an own goal by a flustered Western Eagles defender from a driving cross from Omer Cansever. A great team effort !!

Round 11 11/06/2010

The Hoppers boys put in another strong performance this week recording a 0-0 draw with the top side Keilor Park. This team is starting to play good solid football and the boys are gaining confidence in their own ability. Hoppers with the wind at their backs looked dangerous on a number ofoccassions in an even first half.

In the second half Keilor raised the tempo of the game in search of a breakthrough but could not make inroads against a strong Hoppers defence.  As the game wore on Keilor became frustrated and  Hoppers came close to scoring a winner on a couple of occassions.  A great team effort Hoppers!

Round 10 27/06/2010

The boys travelled to St Albans on Sunday and fought out a tough 2-2 draw. A very commendable result given St Albans won earlier in the year 5-2. Hoppers played very well in the first half and took a deserved 2-0 lead in at half time with Callum Was scoring both goals after some good Hoppers teamwork.

In the second half St Albans fought back strongly and levelled the scores with 10 minutes to go but to the Hoppers boys credit they fought the game out strongly and had a couple of chances towards the end of the game to take all three points.  Justin Grillo, Aaron Cassar, Leon Kikyris and Omer Cansever all played strong games.

Round 9 20/06/2010

Hoppers scored their second win for the season with a come from behind 3 -1 win at Cairnlea.  After conceding an early goal the boys didn't give up and continued to press forward and this positive attitude was rewarded with three goals in the first half.

The second half started with Cairnlea keen to fight back and they came close to scoring but for a couple of great saves from Tal Tal Tun.  As the second half wore on Hoppers had several good chances to increase their lead but some good saves and the woodwork prevented any more goals.

Hoppers goal scorers were Josh Ellem and a brace from Munay Say Aung Min.Well done Hoppers !

Round 8 06/06/2010

The boys went down 5-2 to Williamstown.

Round 7 30/05/2010

Hoppers travelled to bottom placed Melton and were beaten 2-1, giving Melton their first win in eighteen months. For the first 20minutes of the match, Hoppers completely dominated the game but were unable to convert this to the scoreboard. The only time that Hoppers put a string of passes together resulted in a goal, with Marcus Cipressi on the end of some good play midway through the first half.

As the game wore on, Hoppers misplaced a few passes, combined with poor marking and attitude. This led to a Melton equaliser early in the second half, before they quickly added another. The Hoppers players began to lose confidence as the momentum swung towards Melton. A drop in form, considering the great performances put in by the team over the last few weeks.

Round 6 23/05/2010

The boys drew 0-0 with Spring Hills. It was a frustrating afternoon for Hoppers, who created enough opportunities to win the match but unfortunately couldn't get the ball into the back of the net. Kicking into the wind, Hoppers kept the ball in the opposition's half for the best part of 40 minutes but had nothing to show for their good work.

The second half played out in a similar manner, with Hoppers having many scoring opportunites and limiting the opposition to the odd counter attack. Hoppers hit the woodwork a number of times but due to a lack of killer instinct in the penalty area, the score remained nil all at the finish.

Round 5 16/05/2010

The boys put up a magnificent performance despite losing 1-0 to the Western Eagles. Under very difficult circumstances playing away from home, the boys still played with resilience and were worthy of at least sharing the points.

Eevery player who took to the field contributed to the team performance and they boys continue to grow stronger each week they play together. A special mention to stand-in goalkeeper Tal Tal Tun who put in a fantastic performance.

Round 4 09/05/2010

The Under 16 boys recorded their first victory for the season with a strong 2 - 0 win over Satelite City on Sunday.  The team dominated play throughout the match and should have scored several goals but for some poor finishing. The goals were scored by Omer Cansever in the first half and Ku Pru Say in
the second half. If the boys can maintain strong teamwork and improve their finishing then
more wins are around the corner.  Go Hoppers !

Round 3 02/05/2010

U16's had a bye.

Round 2 25/04/2010

Round 1 18/04/2010

Hoppers Crossing 2 -5 lost to St Albans, although beaten on the score board the boys showed character and determination and positive signs across the park and will be competitive for the season ahead. Goals Callum Was, Nathan Borg.
